Parkwood students learn about Constitution

Constitution Day commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, by the delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. Library and technology specialist Dawn Kasper-Bamberger discussed the Constitution with classes at Parkwood Elementary this week.

When students in Brittany Flachs third grade class visited the library, Kasper-Bamberger taught them a lesson about the document and showed photos of her visit to Independence Hall. She talked about the convention and they learned how quill pens were used to sign the Constitution.

Before checking out their own books, they watched “The Preamble” by Schoolhouse Rock. It presents the events of the Constitutional Convention with the lyrics of the chorus directly quoting the Constitution’s Preamble.

Publicly funded educational institutions and federal agencies celebrate the day by providing educational programming about the history of the Constitution.
